Workshop Tips

EYH Workshops are the "bread and butter" of our EYH conference!
Please spend some time thinking about how you will introduce your workshop.  It's very important for you to talk to the participants about your background and about why you decided to go into your chosen profession before you begin the main workshop activity.

You may want to address the following: Where do I work? How long have I been at my current job? What classes did I take in high school and college to prepare for my job? What other types of work did I do before this current job? What advice would I give young women who are interested in a similar career? How does my family life impact my job? What are the best and worst aspects of my job?

Each workshop must feature a fun-filled hands-on activity that engages the girls for the majority of the workshop time.  Plan an activity that ensures they will have a positive, encouraging experience. Don't make the activity too long or complicated (remember that the youngest participants are in the 6th grade). We want every girl to feel successful!

Use props or audiovisuals if possible.  The girls also love being able to take home a memento from the workshop that reminds them about something they learned (past examples include stickers, buttons, maps, etc).

Make sure to leave plenty of time for questions and comments at the end of your workshop!
